Learning from soil initiatives

Poster Challenge: "Soil Heroes Around Me"

Estimated time: 40–60 minutes.

You explored why policies alone are not enough and how soil protection depends on people translating frameworks into practice. Now you will identify those people.

Your task

Create a simple poster featuring:

• One person, group, or initiative that supports soil in your region
• What they do
• Why their work matters for soil
• A short creative slogan that captures their contribution

The initiative may relate to: agricultural soil management; forest soil conservation; peatland or wetland restoration; urban soil protection; community composting; soil education; artistic or communication initiatives; NGO advocacy; municipal soil-related planning; or another angle.

If you cannot identify a local example, choose a national or European initiative. The focus is not perfection in design, but clarity of message.

Engage with others

Read at least one other participant's post. Consider: what type of soil is being protected or made visible? Is the initiative institutional, grassroots, or professional? What forms of responsibility are visible? Respond respectfully and constructively.

By identifying "soil heroes," you begin to see how governance frameworks are translated into lived practice — and to locate yourself within this landscape of responsibility. Who makes soil visible where you live? And where might you stand?
