Urban Design and Community Gardens

Urban gardening initiatives, allotment networks, and community green spaces reconnect soil with everyday urban experience. Transforming vacant lots, rooftops, or shared areas into spaces that incorporate soil (through greening or substrate installation) can restore soil functions and associated ecosystem services in highly built environments where soils have been degraded or sealed by development.
